Legislative Council Chamber, Completed 2019.

JAWSArchitects were commissioned to assist with the design of new joinery, furniture and lighting for Hobart’s historic Legislative Council Chamber which was finalised last week, before the sitting of the new Council.

The project brief was to create removable joinery items that provide technological support to the councillors in a way that is not intrusive of the 1856 Chamber and enabled all furniture to be removed when the Chamber is stripped out and rearranged for the official opening of the new Parliament.

To achieve this outcome JAWS collaborated with Southern Lighting and Andrew Sutherland Consulting Engineers to provide new lighting throughout the Chamber and customised pedestal units.
In addition to this, the original 1856 red velvet couches were reupholstered to provide a firmer more supportive ergonomic seating position.

Here are a few photos of the outcome!
