Located on a gently sloping bush block, this spacious two-storey house is carefully placed on an existing, level clearing. The focal point of the design is the protected, sunny courtyard that embraces a graceful stand of blue gums.
Guest are greeted with this view on entering, moving through a tonally subdued zone before ascending into a light-filled pavilion floating above.
Multifaceted and sculptural, the design connects with its broader setting, framing distant views of Kingston Beach and kunanyi/Mount Wellington.
Considered use of neutral colours and stone walls anchor the house into the hillside. A creased roof extends to the courtyard, with generous eaves to protect the timber cladding and extensive glazing from sun and adverse weather.
A timber screen meanders along the main stairwell from inside to out, giving privacy, preventing birdstrikes and providing additional sun protection.
