The Salvation Army commissioned JAWS Architects to create a drop in centre within the Glenorchy community that goes beyond their typical level of service and provide a platform where they can build friendships with their clients.
The new fitout is located on the ground floor comprising of a worship space, community lounge, drop in are, tea room with servery and commercial kitchen, a board room, meeting rooms, hot desking for users, offices and storage facilities.
Through designing several spaces that nostalgically represent a home, zones that emulate the dining room, lounge room and games room, break down the barriers immediately. The interior atmosphere created is warm, cosy and welcoming. A strong connection to the outdoor garden through floor finishes, drapery, loose furniture selections, timber screens and planting decorated throughout is very soothing.
By creating an internal ‘street’ through the venue and opening up the street elevations, JAWS provided a drop-in destination for those seeking support and friendship.
