The new Cascade Departure Lounge Bar is a welcome addition to the Hobart Airport, providing an ideal venue to farewell departing visitors and locals. Working closely with the CUB team at Fire & Earth Ventures, JAWS applied the same DNA established at the iconic Cascade Brewery in South Hobart to this boutique outlet.

With a tight timeframe to deliver the project, the aim was to retain as much of the existing structure, facilities and equipment as possible, while adding a new layer of warmth and personality. With minor changes made to the existing configuration to open up the sight lines and better orientate the beer taps, a rich palette of layered materials has been added to establish the new identity.

Along with new lighting, loose seating and some eclectic picture frames telling the incredible story behind the Cascade name, the re-branded Departure Lounge bar evokes a sense of nostalgia, with the patina of the materials helping to provide a sense that that the new bar has always been there.

The beautifully rich, tarnished brass counter-top wraps and curves around the existing skeleton, off-set with evergreen hand glazed tiles, raw industrial metalwork and juxtaposed with fluted glass and heritage pendants. Specialty signage in aged brass and rustic timbers adds depth of character and a sense of handmade craftsmanship.

The highly considered detail, from design through to brand identity, along with the integrity of honest materials takes this airport fit-out to a new level.
